The Jobs Market – From All Perspectives

There are lots of competing interests within the jobs market, with business owners, employees, and those searching for jobs all wanting different status quos. A person looking for employment wants very little competition so that it is easier to find a job, with the employer often wanting the exact opposite; a lot of competition, so that they can have the pick of the bunch. Meanwhile, the government is constantly pushing reductions in unemployment, while also trying to attract the best workers from around the world, and training people in professions here as well, which can complicate the subject considerably.

If you truly want a robust employment market, the answer, between a lot of competition and no competition, is that a middle ground is probably best for the overall health of the economy. Having competition in every facet of the economy is important, but having so much that wage levels stagnate isn’t good for anybody in the long run. Also, if every job is getting hundreds of applicants, then sorting out the good from the bad can be a time consuming activity for businesses to engage in. Meanwhile, having no competition doesn’t allow businesses to look for better employees, and can cause the economy as a whole to stagnate as well.

The Cruise Market – A Boost to the UK Economy

The UK Cruise Market is worth billions, but there has not been a great deal of talk about how much it really brings to the economy, until now that is.

Apparently the Cruise market provides around 70,000 jobs, while it’s now recognised as the biggest market in Europe. Over the last year the sector has provided more than 2.5 billion to the UK economy, creating more than 4,000 new jobs.

It has always been clear that the Cruise Market is a large one, but not many individuals would have expected it to be the biggest in Europe, and hopefully it will continue to progress even more in the near future.

Unemployment Rate Drops Further

Unemployment is a hot topic in pretty much every country in the world, especially for the United Kingdom. There is good news on this front though and the rate has fallen to 2.16m. Though this is still a large number, the number of people in work has risen by 345,000, which is actually a record.

There are many people out there looking for work, and the latest rise is largely down to full time employment, rather than those who are self employed. This shows that there is now hope for the unemployed and the economy in general, but there’s certainly a long way to go.

The news is certainly a boost for the Tories and if this rate continues to fall prior to next year’s General Election, then you’d really expect the Conservatives to be favourites.

What Jobs Can Economy Graduates Gain?

There has been a great deal of speculation surrounding the skills of economy graduates but what exactly can you gain with this degree?

Well the course is a popular one because it is known to offer some students exceptional job prospects and some of the highest earnings and that’s mainly because the jobs relate to businesses, banks and accountancy. Of course there success stories tend to come from some of the leading universities such as Cambridge and Oxford, and not every graduate is guaranteed a nice comfortable earning.

If you posses the right skills for the job you’re applying for then you will stand a good chance of getting it, but with economy courses being scrutinized left right and center, times may be a little bit tougher for the next crop of graduates.

Are economics Courses set to be reshaped?

Various students from 19 different countries are joining forces to change the way Economy courses are structured. They’re arguing that many of the courses only focus on narrow free-market theories, meaning students may come away lacking the ability to confront challenges that may await them in their careers.

Financial stability is always on the top of every governments’ agenda and if the current crop of students are finding it difficult to face the everyday challenges they’re supposed to have trained for, then a reshape may be a good way to go about it. The International Student Initiative for Pluralist Economics (ISIPE) agrees entirely, and they say that these courses are failing wider society when they ignore important evidence and information from various other industries.

Only time will tell whether this stand picks up some speed and really has an effect on the overall structure of these courses, but economy has and will always be a tremendously important part of society, and more diversity and ideas from other industries could be extremely beneficial.
